What is essential heading into next week?

1st - Sleep!
Moving from a summer sleep to a school sleep schedule will help provide a better experience for the first month of school. This will be especially important for those involved in sports, marching band, or other extracurricular activities with schedules becoming full very quickly. The more routine sleep the better, and will also help to create happier and less quick-to-anger teens who are lacking sleep. Be on the lookout for sleep tips and research in my upcoming Weekly Rundowns.

2nd - Organization System
Students will need to organize items and materials for their classes, the "stuff it all in one folder" approach does not last long and I've seen it crash & burn multiple times (same goes for the "shove everything randomly into my bookbag" method). I suggest relying on the recommendations of each teacher and following those through. Having a folder or binder for each class will be helpful and when it comes to keeping track of assignments we'll explore multiple options for the start of the year to see what sticks best for your child.

3rd - Turning in assignments on time!
The best start to the year (and keeping it that way) will be to turn in assignments on time. Students need to be aware of assignment due dates and ensure homework is in on time. This will help to alleviate getting behind and having work pile up, which it will quickly do. Based on past experiences, I've seen students especially get behind on science labs and making a comeback from these is very overwhelming. Getting into a back-to-school routine that ensures assignments in on time will set up success for the year.
